What’s up y’all?! I am so excited about this blogpost. Why, you ask? Because I am laying down some real talk about body confidence. Also, we finally had an actual spring-like day here in Carolina and I got to wear stripes. That’s pretty exciting too.
Over the past week, I have thought deeply about my own personal struggle feeling comfortable in my own skin. In some ways it stems from the chronic illness that plagues me but in stronger more damaging ways it originates with my heart. I have allowed society’s standard to taint my view of my own body and worth. I remember feeling overlooked and inadequate as scrolled through Instagram, comparing myself to images that I thought were proof that I wasn’t enough. We have all felt that sting, haven’t we?
Look, my body is imperfect [ I have the booty dimples to prove it! ] and you know what? That is OKAY. I am enough just as I am. You are enough just as you are. We are so beautifully crafted by God as women. What society calls inadequate, God says is exquisite.
The truth is that it doesn’t matter what anyone else looks like or what their life appears to be. You are you, and that is enough. Every beautifully unique curve, dimple, and smile line is more than adequate. You were made to be you, as you are, on purpose. And your life, mess and all, has value that lasts. You do not have to strive to become more worthy or valid.
There is nothing quite so lovely as a woman who embraces her flaws and chooses to love them rather than hate them. And that is the secret to body confidence, choosing to love the flaws. We can move forward in confidence, choosing to love the dimples, curves, lines and crooked smiles, because God makes no mistakes. Our bodies are unblemished and our lives have purpose beyond curated images. When comparison sneaks in remember that you were enough before, you are enough now, and you will continue to be enough just as you are. You are exquisitely crafted by a God that proclaims you beautiful.
